Grace
Property Workday
Enjoy
the fellowship while sprucing up the property
inside and out. The Property Committee will
have a work day on Saturday, January
28th starting at 9:00 and ending at
noon. Please bring cleaning rags, working gloves,
rakes, forks, shovels and pruning tools to spruce
up the retention pond, shrubbery and overall
grounds. We need to repair the wooden stair
railings and stairs too so some carpentry is also
needed for those areas . All able bodied members
(youth and adults) are welcome.

A
New Year of Service
Make
a resolution to answer His call
Our
new church year began on the First Sunday of
Advent, November 27, and our new calendar year
begins January 1. Both give us pause to refresh
and relight the paths of our spiritual lives, our
family lives, our professional lives, and our
health and well-being. Our Savior, born in a
manger, has come to give us all eternal life. This
Good News strengthens and refreshes us to continue
our work as His disciples.
Many
vibrant disciples bless our Grace family
and serve in countless ways. They tend to tasks,
large and small, that most of us do not think
about because they just happen. We need all of
you, and we have opportunities for all.
We
have a new opportunity for ministry to our
neighboring apartment community. The new
management there has asked if Grace can help
provide homework help to the youth, ages 12-18,
who live there. The apartment has a room set up
with free Wi-Fi, tables, chairs, and a dry erase
board. The schedule is twice a week, Monday and
Thursday from 4-6 p.m. If you can help or want
more information, please contact me right away
(mcdonaldjax@gmail.com or
445-0707) so we can help get this new ministry
underway early in the New Year.
When
Pastor Rick asked me to serve as president, one of
the things he said he would like us to be able to
do, was minister to the youth in these apartments.
God has invited us through this opportunity to
extend the vibrant work of Grace to our neighbors.
Let's answer His invitation.
We
continue our thanks and praise for Pastor Rick's
continued strength. We join our prayers asking
that God will provide healing through this new
chemotherapy.
Friends
in Christ, Linda

Youth
News
This Sunday after
late service:
We will all go to lunch
somewhere and deliver Christmas packages to one of
the two families. We should return back to
the church around 2:00. Please meet in
the fellowship hall after late service.
SAVE THE DATE! Friday,
January 27, 2012 - Dinner and
Lock-in.
Attention youth and parents
of grades 5th through 12th. We will start
off in the fellowship hall with a brainstorm
dinner meeting for all parents and youth to
discuss future goals and
expectations of your youth group. We want to
hear your suggestions and how you can help us meet
our goals to re-build our youth group. We
understand families' busy schedules and we need
your feedback on ways to strengthen our Grace
youth program and engage more youth and
families.
We need your help and ideas
to build it back up. We've invited the 5th
graders and parents to provide input, as they will
be a part of the youth group later in the year.
Following the dinner, we
will have a lock-in down stairs for 6th through
12th graders. Parents should pick up their
teens at 8:30 Saturday morning.
Stay tuned for more
details. We welcome your input.
Other future dates to
pencil in:
February 12, Valentines
Spaghetti Luncheon after late service
March 2-4, River Rat
Ramble, High Springs Florida, grades
6th-12th

Celebrating gifts of talent
Grace Art Reception &

medium, no matter your age, we have an opportunity
for you to show your art with your Grace family
and others. Join us Jan. 27
from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Rosemary and Dave
Ferguson's home. Please bring a light,
"finger-food" type appetizer to share. Fergusons
will provide beverages. All artists with work to
display need to call Rosemary at 894-1010 to
schedule delivery before Jan. 27. All performing

"Souper"
Bowl III
January
29th after 2nd Service
One
week before Super Bowl SB XLVI, bring your favorite soup
to share. We also need breads, crackers, veggie trays
and desserts. This year's theme is "Wellness," with
presentations from two Grace members. Licensed physical
therapist Doreen Aparicio will discuss the "Benefits of
Exercise: Your Body's Own Insurance Policy." Registered
dietician and diabetes specialist Pam Schmidt will
discuss on diabetes prevention, weight management and
portion control, and healthier food choices. Just in
time to keep us on track with our New Year's resolutions
- make plans now to be
there! |

Lay Ministers
We have been blessed
to have Bill Weidenbach to assist with our worship
services. With Bill now in seminary, as we told
you in last month's newsletter, our new lay ministers
will begin to assist with our Sunday morning services
starting on January first in many of the same ways.
Many churches use lay minister worship assistants,
and you may notice that some Sundays may involve several
different people in assisting with different parts of
the service (the Kyrie and Gloria in Excelsis,
children's sermon, and sermon) and in different ways
(some may sing and others may speak the Kyrie).
Our lay ministers will help to provide our congregation
with a new opportunity to witness and share their faith
while also providing assistance to Pastor Rick. If
you would like to participant in this ministry, please
contact Linda McDonald or Floyd Self.

Prayer
List Update
Beginning
January first, we will be changing how we offer the
prayers for specifically named individuals. In the
bulletin each Sunday we will be printing the names of
everyone on the Church's prayer list. By printing
them in the bulletin everyone will have all the
names. During the prayers, the person leading the
prayers will not name each person on the prayer
list. While we pray as a congregation, you may
want to hold the list of names in your hands to be
reminded of those on our prayer list.
In
addition to printing the names in the bulletin, the
Church also has a prayer group who receive an email each
week with all of the names on the prayer list so they
can be prayed for individually during the week. If
you would like to be on the prayer list email, let the
church office know or write on the attendance card your
name, email address, and that you would like to be on
the email prayer list. To add a person or family
to the prayer list, you may write that on the attendance
card each Sunday or email the Church. If after the
printing of the Church bulletin someone needs to be
added to the list, there may be a supplemental email or
their name may be added Sunday
morning.

Grace
is the Tuna Fish Church
If
you've been looking for our 'tuna can' to donate tuna, we now
have a large, blue decorated bin in Fellowship Hall (thank you
Christie Moore!) where you can leave your tuna donations. Both
ECHO and Manna on Meridian have asked Grace to donate tuna to
their programs so that those in need have a protein source.
Our March and June collections go to Manna on Meridian; rest
of the year goes to ECHO.

In His
Service:
January Worship Assistants
If
there is a scheduling problem and you are unable to serve
during your assigned time, please make arrangements to switch
with someone else. If you plan to make a switch and
would like this reflected in the bulletin, please remember to
contact the church office in
advance.
